EXHIBITION - The Dragon is Finished!!!

Well that felt epic! We made it... we got to the end of the dragons tail on the last day of the exhibition! We had well over a thousand visitor contributions to the dragon alone as each scale was decorated by a visitor to the exhibition, (we'll make a tally of the total scales created in the next couple of weeks). The exhibition will be much missed, thanks to everyone who has contributed in some way 💓

EXHIBITION - Creatures of Curiosity, Exhibition Images

Here's a few exhibition images of other works that are on display in the Creatures of Curiosity exhibition, the Kirkdale Cave room features some amazing work by Tim Hopgood, a children's author and illustrator, he illustrated creatures, such as hyenas, lions and long tusked elephants, once native to the region.

There is also a case with sensory textile creations created by Tim's wife Wanda Szajna-Hopgood based on Tim's illustrations

In the room with my dragon is a wall of dragon eyes created by children in workshops run by myself and Rosie (i will be rotating having different eyes on my dragon that the children created during the exhibition run)...

Some fabulous creatures have been created by schoolchildren in felt, these were created in workshops run by the very talented textile artist Serena Partridge...

There is also a wall for visitors to include their own creatures of Curiosity!

...and a wall of Hobs, as well as a hob trail within the spectacular garden of Nunnington Hall

And a reading space at the end of the exhibition with lots more of the children's artwork on display 💓

EXHIBITION - Creating the Dragon Outline

This week I've been busy designing and painting onto the walls of Nunnington Hall a huge dragon whose tail extends down the corridor. The dragon will be a participatory artwork and visitors to the Creatures of Curiosity exhibition will be invited to decorate a dragon scale which will be added to the dragon during the course of the exhibition.

The exhibition opens on the 16th July and runs until the beginning of September

Gary Bateson & Karen Thompson at Yorkshire Museum (Photo: Ian McKinley)

Spent the afternoon walking around the Museum Gardens with Yorkshire Museum Manager Gary Bateson, placing another batch of the porcelain sandwiches... From here I went onto the Treasure's House to meet with Visitor Services Manager Lisa Holden and place a few more in the gardens there.

I had a Lovely afternoon which followed on from my packed out artists talk at Kings Manor. Brilliant Day!
