EVENT – Porcelain Sandwich on display in Arts Council Reception, Leeds Offices

Ha ha… News has just reached me that one of my porcelain sandwiches is out on display in the reception of the Leeds HQ of the Arts Council offices, this apparently has moved with them from the Dewsbury office where it was also on display… The lovely chap there who took a photo of it for me in situ also said that it was a conversation piece 🙂 Very happy to hear about this little piece of news and amazingly it ties in with National Sandwich week it would appear!
Looks like it’s a an egg mayo one!

I've just been sent a couple of images of one of my Porcelain Sandwiches which has found its way over to Texas! Ha ha... the best part of this project has been seeing the images that folks have sent in of the sandwiches in their new environments :-) 

 

PORTFOLIO - DAY 2, Artists challenge

Day 2 of the 5 day artists challenge... Today's theme is  slip cast multiples in porcelain. The first image is of one of my porcelain sandwiches made for York Curiouser in 2014. 300 of these sandwiches were left in five locations around the City of York, the Museum gardens, Treasure's House Gardens, St. Anthony's Gardens, Kings Manor and on the York Walls.

Image 2 is from my 'Fragile' installation, this was made up of 300 PMN-2 landmines which were installed on the lawn outside the Holburne Museum of Art in Bath. They were aligned to reference and  resemble a military cemetery.

The last image today is a site specific piece of work made for the Siobhan Davies Studios in London. Referencing Louise Fitzjames, a Ballerina predominant in mid 19th Century France whom was likened to a 'dancing asparagus in battle of the vegetables'. 'We Must Fit In' is made up of porcelain anorexic dancing asparagus fixed into the stage of a dining table. It's looking at the predominance of eating disorders with dance and the sad fact that one must look the correct shape to be even granted an audition.

PORCELAIN SANDWICHES - Museum Gardens / Treasure's House Images

Spent the afternoon walking around the Museum Gardens with Yorkshire Museum Manager Gary Bateson, placing another batch of the porcelain sandwiches... From here I went onto the Treasure's House to meet with Visitor Services Manager Lisa Holden and place a few more in the gardens there.

I had a Lovely afternoon which followed on from my packed out artists talk at Kings Manor. Brilliant Day!

UPCOMING - York Curiouser Exhibition

York Curiouser kicks off next weekend. I'll be out and about on the morning of Saturday 14th placing the first batches of porcelain sandwiches. Some of the places they will be going are the Museums Gardens, The York Walls, Kings Manor and the Treasures House... I'm interested to see the response to them! Getting excited now....

PORCELAIN SANDWICHES - A Porcelain Picnic

The porcelain sandwiches are coming out thick and fast now... only 100 or so more to go! Tony Bartholomew took some press shots the other day. I like the idea of the picnic basket, which reminds me, I really should dig out a rather pertinent suitcase from my mum's loft to take the sandwiches to York in. One of my more tortured childhood memories involving the tall ships race and corned beef and onion sandwiches!! My fathers brainwave! One day I'll tell the full story... perhaps at my artists talk....

Starting work on my next project for York Curiouser, a commission to make an intervention for the City of York to tie in with the Tour De France and the 100 day festival in June / July 2014.
